Gion-matsuri is a one of the biggest festival which takes place over the entire month of July in Kyoto. Processions of Yamahoko are held on July 17th. It is the most important event among them. Yamahoko is decorated floats which every town in Kyoto builds their own. They are decked with local and international arts and crafts, so they are called walking museums.
